Most people think of dowsing, or divining, as a process of using a forked tree branch to find a place to drill for water. That’s what I used to think too. Now I see dowsing as a powerful tool for self-exploration, for understanding the natural forces of the Universe, and for working knowingly with the Divine and with Nature in our lives.
I learned to dowse in 1986 from a kindly old gentleman who helped me find our septic tank with a pair of L-shaped pieces of wire. He found the septic tank in two minutes, after two “pros” in the sewer business couldn’t find it in two hours. I immediately saw this as a spiritual process and have been hooked ever since.
I have come to realize that we are filled and surrounded by subtle energies. Some of these energies weaken us and some strengthen us. Dowsers typically do things to avoid, block or neutralize detrimental energies and they seek out beneficial energies in Nature. I have found that the real power to work with subtle energies comes from within. We can transmute detrimental energies into beneficial energies with prayer and blessing. All we have to do is ask that they be changed, and they change. We can also call in beneficial energies to create unique energy environments that support us in our efforts. This is simply magic—real magic. I have also been drawn to Dr. Emoto’s work with water. He has found that water has memory and that we actually change the water with our thoughts. Dr. Emoto has shown that loving thoughts create beautiful water crystals when the water is frozen, while negative thoughts create unattractive, distorted ice formations. To me, this shows much more of our own power than the power of water, though water is one of the best holders of energy. You can charge anything with your intent. The best way to do this is with blessing. You can ask God (or whatever you call the Divine) to bless any object or substance with specific energies to help you heal, or to resolve a particular issue in your life, or to help achieve a goal. You can validate that this blessing process really works through muscle testing. To experience this, hold one arm straight out to your side. Then think of an unresolved issue in your life and have a friend push down on your arm while you resist, trying to hold your arm up. Then ask the Divine to bless a glass of water with specific energies to help you resolve your issue. Have your friend muscle-test you again while holding the water and thinking of the issue, and you’ll test significantly stronger. Put the glass down, and you’ll muscle-test weak. If you take a swallow of the water, you’ll muscle-test much stronger while thinking of the issue, even if you’re not holding the glass of water. This knowledge also brings responsibility as we begin to realize that every thought and emotion changes the subtle but powerful world of energy. Nature supports us by feeding us with her energies, and she is non-judgmental in her support. Positive thoughts attract beneficial energies and negative thoughts and emotions draw detrimental energies that may affect us for years to come. The more aware we are of this process, the more careful we will be in our thoughts and deeds. We can all learn to find these energies with dowsing and change them with prayer. When I began my spiritual quest in 1974, I searched outside of my Jewish religion, though I never disavowed my faith. Interestingly, 25 years later, I made a discovery in my dowsing that brought me right back to my heritage, especially to Jewish mysticism. I began finding a unique pattern of energy lines around beds in 1996. I soon realized that the Bed Pattern, as I call it, is a reflection of the health and well-being of whoever sleeps in that bed. Imbalances in our lives manifest as imbalances in our Bed Patterns. A properly stated prayer, calling for healing and balance, will correct the imbalances and bring balance into our lives. In June 1999, I realized that the Bed Pattern is almost identical to the Tree of Life in Kabbalah, the basis of Jewish mysticism. The Tree of Life is the central feature of Kabbalah. According to legend, the Tree of Life was put into place before Creation as a pattern of God’s Light. Everything in existence is patterned after the Tree of Life. It has been studied for thousands of years as a symbol to help us understand abstract spiritual concepts in intellectual ways. Yet I can teach just about anyone to find and work with this tangible pattern of energies. I am more convinced than ever that the Bed Pattern is the Tree of Life. It is really the Human Energy Pattern. It is around each of us, every minute of every day, and we imprint it where we sleep. I have long been a man of strong faith, but dowsing continues to strengthen my faith every single day. It helps turn “blind faith” into a stronger, more knowing faith. It helps us to see the Power of the Divine in our lives. I have been searching for many years for tools and techniques to bring mystical experience into my life. I find dowsing combined with prayer to be the most powerful tool we each have at our disposal to draw us ever closer to the Divine. For me and for many others, dowsing is more than just a way to find water; it’s a path to enlightenment. Joey is a world-renowned dowser, energy worker, and spiritual teacher. ![]() written by Donald Sheldon , January 05, 2007 I too have been interested in dowsing for many years. I have read Emoto's work and as I recall the book New York City public water makes beautiful crystals too. My experience with dowsing dates back to the mid 1990's and Harold Mc Coy of Society of Dowsers for two terms and established ORI to give credence to the power of thought as a healing modality. He uses dowsing in his sensations all over the world. The concept that every thought is is a pray belongs in here as well. Contact ORI at it's web site (www.ozarkresearch.org) for more information on the connection between dowsing and healing. Write comment
